Confessions Of A Hungry Pregnant Woman

First off, I love you. I sincerely love each and every one of you kind geniuses that commented on my last post that of course pregnancy weight gain should be calculated from where I started.

It is probably no shocker that the reason that I am asking is because [insert scary music here] my appetite is back. And it's hungry. And making up for lost time.

I have gained back almost all of the weight that I lost in the first trimester. I am still two pounds down from where I started but with the way I am eating lately, I will probably surpass that starting weight by around midnight tonight.

Now, here's the thing. My goal is a healthy baby. And gaining weight is a good thing. But gaining too much weight is not. So, I am really going to have to ask my doctor how it is medically counted.

I have certainly been indulging my appetite lately. After weeks of eating next to nothing and keeping very little down, now when I am hungry, I eat. I feel as if I am mostly making good choices. Fortunately, my pregnancy cravings are mostly for healthful things like apples, turkey sandwiches with havarti cheese and as many veggies as I can pile on, and ice cold water with lots of lemon slices in it. However, I do admit to eating a plate of chili fries the other day. I also have a weakness for pudding (I know, that is pretty random) and macaroni and cheese (which I don't make for myself, of course, but you know, Will likes it!).

So, I will continue on until my next appointment, trying to eat mostly well, and allowing myself the occasional splurge. And watching those numbers climb.

I cannot believe that we find out whether Sweet Pea is a boy or a girl in just a few short days. Our names are all picked out and we are leaning toward not keeping it a secret this time around. So it will be a big reveal on Monday!!

My appetite never came back. I'm obese so it's not like I need to eat much. I wish I had cravings though, everything just seems so unappealing.

Aren't you supposed to gain like 1lbs every week from now on? I forgot where I read that.

Don't stress about it. Enjoy pregnancy, don't calculate it!! :)

Ah, anonymous! You obviously haven't been reading long. . . I stress and calculate about everything, it's what I do! :) But you are right, I should try to enjoy it more. I think one of the linger effects of recurrent pregnancy loss is that I am always trying to do the Very Best Thing for the baby, so if, God Forbid, anything should happen, I can't blame myself. Logically, that is silly, I know, but emotionally. . . sigh. It's a whole other story.

I am right there with you! I haven't had pregnancy cravings so much as what I refer to as "the power of suggestion". I see a donut commercial, I want donuts. Somebody says "I had fried fish last night" and I want that. Proud to say that I have only sent my husband out ONE TIME to get something (a McD's strawberry milkshake) and I was sick, so that counts as medicine, right?!

That being said . . . I was at a mtg downtown this morning near my fave gourmet CUPCAKE bakery (their speciality). Well, I just HAD to get four to take home, right?! Cause four fits in the box, and there's three of us at home for dinner . . . wait, I think this means I am having one for lunch today, too!!!

When I was pregnant, I craved sweets. And they were so goooood. I did gain like 40 pounds or something, which is above the recommended weight gain, I think. But it all went away.

Weight gain is something I'm also trying not to obsess about. I don't want to overdo it with this pregnancy, though. I have been SO hungry since day 1 it seems. But, I'm still carrying around quite a few extra pounds from the past decade of ttc and loss. I can totally relate to your comment about trying to do the best thing for your baby.

Sending good wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy! I can't wait for your big announcement!

I believe in the 90/10 rule. 90% healthy and 10% indulgent food. You can't be good all of the time.:-)

Oddly enough, I didn't have a huge appetite with Tot or Bean, but I did with Poppy.

I can't believe it's almost time to find out the gender! How exciting. We kept both of our girls' names a secret, mostly because we didn't want to hear any feedback on the names we had selected (because they are a bit unusual). I loved waiting!

Can't wait until Monday!

Haha...2 pounds by midnight is awesome. Enjoy it...I ate a lot of healthy stuff, but ended up on a very strict gestational diabetic diet anyway...wish I had eaten like crap the whole time! Haaaahaaaa...

I developed a new bad habit for all things Creamy, like mayo and cheese and tartar sauce. And I swear, I was a no effort vegetarian for 20 years, but my pregnancy with my little boy: tri-tip (see, I don't even know how to spell it!) So yummy.

Good for you for being so concious!
