Sparkle and Shine

First off, thank you for the supportive comments on Will's surgery. We are comfortable with our decision and know it's the only choice, really, but I am not looking forward to it.

Secondly, I am pretty sure I am losing my mind. I kind of remember this scatterbrained state of mind from the home stretch with Will. I am very preoccupied with the nursery and its progress. We are getting close to being done and have accomplished a lot, but I still have a lot that I want to do before Miss Emma arrives. I also have some other "rat holes" that need attending and I am quickly losing steam.

My birthday is Friday and M wants to give me the gift of housecleaning until Emma is born and perhaps a clean or two after. This is genius. But it's also expensive. And am I the only one who will want to clean their house. . . before the cleaners come? I war between insisting that I can pull up my big girl panties and clean the house myself and save us a pile of money, and just relenting, knowing that I need that energy for other projects. I am leaning towards relenting. Also, this cleaning is going to be my New Mommy Present (also known as the Push Present, or the Zipper Gift, in my case), so really, shouldn't a girl get something a little extravagant for housing another human for 3/4 of a year? And though I love jewelry, I have to admit, clean toilets would have a lot more sparkle for me right now.

I am more excited to give M his present this year. He reads this blog, so I won't say more, but suffice to say, I know he is going to be thrilled with it (you are, I promise, M) and it has taken a lot of planning and execution on my part. I am eager to see his reaction.

I was going to get housecleaning for a present after Elizabeth was born, but I never managed to find one that was cheap enough. Part of that was the area we lived in, there weren't many options.

But yes, genius present. Much better than jewelry.

It is what it is said...

Absolutely take the gift of house cleaning! Even though I like the satisfaction I get from cleaning, I really do have far better things to do with my time (and I'm not pregnant!). Believe me, the 4 hrs or so however often you have them clean, will be the bigger gift to yourself.

Happy early birthday, our birthdays are on the same day :)
I say take the cleaning, sounds like you could you some extra helping hands now and after the baby comes.

I WILL TAKE THE CLEANERS!!!

I know what you mean though -- I'd wanna pre-clean for them, too, LOL.

I hear you about the cleaning. We had a crew come in (3) and although I was right there helping/showing... they still didn't do half the job.

Cant wait to hear what M's present is......

Cleaners are *awesome*. As for pre-cleaning... you have to get your mind in the right place. My mantra is that I don't *clean* for the cleaners, I just *declutter*. The point is to give them access to everything that they will clean, without doing the actual cleaning yourself. So I pick stuff up off the floor, but I let them vacuum. I put away dishes, but I let them scrub the sink and countertops.

You're still doing some work, but it's work that you would need to do anyway, and it's only a fraction of the TOTAL work you would need to do to actually clean the house.

Yes, take it!! Even if you have to leave your house to treat yourself to lunch or a pedicure so you aren't "hovering." You DESERVE it!!

oh a cleaning person! what a glorious push gift! There is just something so nice about having someone else do it for you. Please don't have guilt for it and just enjoy it! And when i've had it done in past, I've been tempted to pre-clean too. But resist the urge! Just straighten anything that would be in their way and leave it at that. enjoy it girl!
