Mixed Results

Well, today's beta didn't go as well as I had been hoping.

The number for today is 1903, which if you go from Wednesday's number is a doubling time of only 57.18 hours. Not great.

However, if you are a silver lining type of gal, which I am now desperately trying to be, the IVF coordinator figured the doubling off of the original beta of 242 from last Sunday. That doubling time (242 to 1903) is 40.33 hours. Better.

But still.

The coordinator said that there is no reason to do another beta unless I would like to. Our 6 week, 2 day ultrasound is on January 8, so if we don't do a beta, I have to wait for NINE days to next get some sort of hint as to how this pregnancy is progressing.

I am torn. Part of me wants to know if the numbers start dropping so that I can prepare myself. As I have said in previous posts, however, there is no preparation.

This is what I get for starting to get optimistic. But a girl can dream, right?

If you have room in your thoughts and prayers for these little ones, I would really appreciate it.

I'm keeping lots of good thoughts for you that this keeps doubling and doing what it should. And personally, I think you should go back for another one. I know there's no preparing for the worst, but waiting is just torture. I'm sorry you have to even worry.

I have lots of room in my prayers for you. In fact, you have a front row seat.

Get the beta. Good news or bad - you're the kind of person who wants information.

But really, the numbers aren't bad. Your little ones have already surprised us with the Super Beta earlier this week. Maybe they're just taking a short break.

I refuse to think any way but positive about this. .

I always have room in my thoughts and prayers for you, sister.

Ok, try to look at it like this, though my logic may be flawed and I have no medical background so may not know what the hell I'm talking about.

Your second beta was WAY higher than it needed to be for a good doubling number. Maybe you had a sudden surge right before that draw, and quite possibly had another surge right after the draw today. So it looks like your third beta is lower than you would like, but really, it's okay.

If you wanted reassurance, another beta would be a good idea. I would probably go for it, but only if it's going to provide you with the reassurance you need. If you think you won't fully rest easy until the scan, then what's the point?

I'm SURE everything will be fine.

I'm a fan of the silver lining approach -- plus, 57.18 hours isn't bad, it's just not perfect. That said, uncertainty sucks, and nine days is a long time to live with it, so I'd probably have another beta.

Many prayers heading your way.

I've got plenty of room and I'll be thinking of and praying for you! HUGS!

I'm with Farah...on the American Pregnancy Assoc. website it states that 48-72 hours is what they want. So I think things still look great!

If it will actually give you some peace, then get the beta. I wish you peace and happiness over the next 9 days.

There's always plenty of room here for hopes and prayers. And I will send lots of them your way.

I'm with a few of the ladies - everything I read said 2 - 3 days for doubling and then it levels off. So the beta may not be a bad beta at all.

I'd probably go for the extra beta. I believe in silver linings, but I also hate being caught unaware.

If it puts your mind at rest then have another beta done.

I agree with the rest, just get the quick blood draw. Just to know. You and the peanut(s) are in my prayers.

Once you get over a 1000, it does slow down a bit and is probably closer to the 72 hour doubling than 48 hours doubling time.

So, that means you are still doing great!

Lots of prayers headed your way! That beta number still seems great to me....being off by just a few hours is nothing. I'm sure all is well in that uterus of yours.

I don't know enough about betas to give an informed opinion. But these ladies do make sense. You and your little ones are in my prayers.
