I'm Like An Animal

Kids, my appetite is outofcontrol. Seriously.

I do not have a huge appetite when I am not pregnant. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE food. You've seen my food posts, I don't cook low-fat or low-cal very often. I love all manners of foods, from breakfasts, to lunches, to desserts - and everything in between!! But I am good with portion control and I like to eat a ton of fruits and veggies, too. I would say that I crave variety rather than quantity as a non-pregnant person.

When I was pregnant with Will, I would get hungry, but I felt as if I ate pretty similarly to my non-pregnant self. I did have some cravings and occasionally, would eat more than usual, but my appetite seemed about the same.

Not so this time around.

This past Sunday, we grabbed Burger King on the way home. I usually (non-pregnant) get a Whopper Jr meal, small size, and a soda, and I rarely finish it all. As a concession to the fact that I was really hungy and I likes me some ice cream, I got a small chocolate shake instead of the soda. And I ate every. single. bite. Had we still been at the restaurant, I would have ordered another burger. This has never happened. I am not a finish my own burger kind of girl, let alone order another one! This is just an example of my appetite. There are many more.

I wake up hungry, I eat. I get hungry, I snack. I get more hungry, I have lunch. Lather, rinse, repeat, eat. All day. Hungry seems to be my middle name. KaHungryTie.
I think it's funny that my OB was concerned about weight gain last time around. I have done him proud this last month and might even get the opposite lecture at Monday's appointment.

I got super hungry during the first month or two with my girls, but then it settled down.... you know, once I was vomiting non-stop.
I did always have cravings though. With Tot, it was any type of fruit pie. With Bean, it was anything spicy!
Eat, enjoy :)

Obviously, this baby is hungrier than the first baby. ;) Elizabeth wanted doughnuts, lots of doughnuts.

I think being pregnant with a girl makes you ravenous. That's the only way I can explain it because I went through the same thing with both girls. I say eat and enjoy! :)

Hello little preggo belly! You're so cute!

Eat away...I miss eating that much and not feeling in any way guilty...it's for the baby!

The baby belly is super cute! How do you measure in relation to how you did with Will at the same stage?

I normally eat quite a bit anyway (I am 6 foot and my Dad says I have hollow legs to fill), but this pregnancy I have my normal hungry days, then I have SUPER hungry days. These days usually last for a few days in a row, so I figure the baby is having a growth spurt those days. Hopefully the baby and not just me!

I wonder if it is a "being pregnant with a girl" thing? When I was pregnant I was terribly nauseous for about half the pregnancy, then I was absolutely STARVING!!! hmmm

I am with so many of the above commentors and have several friends that agree--it is the GIRL factor. Something about baby girls makes the appetitie insane. I remember the last few weeks of my pregnancy I ate nothing but blueberry old fashioned donuts for breakfast (YUMMMMM), pizza for lunch and mexican for dinner. SO ASHAMED! Oh and I also plowed through a giant bag of peanut m&m's the last day before my c-section. The.entire.thing. And I wonder why I gained 50 lbs?!?! Thank GOD for breastfeeding and running shoes!

Katie, I'm so glad you posted about this. I'm so hungry I could eat an elephant! It hasn't gotten much better now that I'm in the 2nd trimester. I finish a meal and immediately wish I had more to eat. I have to say you've made me feel better about it! (And you've all made me think it's a girl...)
