Some Thing That Won't Help Matters

I heard about this on the radio yesterday morning.

With my recent weight gain, I won't be heading to my local 31 Flavors today.

But even if I wasn't worried about gaining a healthy amount of weight, I have very mixed feelings about this type of promotion.

See, not that long ago, had I heard about this, my response would have been, "Those preggers already have a baby. I am the one who needs the free ice cream."

I wish that they would have a Clomid Cup or IVF Ice Cream Day. What about introducing a new flavor - Miscarriage Mocha Chip and everyone that has miscarried never has to pay for it. Ever. What about Retrieval Rum Ripple? I know I certainly would have enjoyed a free cone on the way home from egg retrieval.

I know that most people don't consider infertility something to celebrate. I couldn't disagree more. I felt that each day that I survived, whether it was CD1 or CD 257, was a true miracle. There were so many times that I didn't even want to get out of bed, let alone do all of the other necessary things to get through the day. Yet I did. Somehow.

Now that I am pregnant and seem to be staying that way, I feel as if I deserve recognition far less than I did during my darkest hours. It was then that I really needed someone to say, "Here. Here is your free ice cream. Let's celebrate the fact that you got out of bed today."

So, because I don't own my own ice cream store, here is a free cone for every one of you. Feel free to pass it on. In honor of infertility, this is a special cone, guaranteed to:
Never melt or drip
Contain absolutely no calories or fat grams
Magically turn into your favorite flavor
*Also, for my GD friends, it will not cause any disturbance to your glucose levels!

Aw thanks! As yet another period arrives, your timing couldn't have been more perfect.

Um ... hope you don't mind but I just e-mailed their parent company, Dunkin Inc, with a link to your blog. I think they need to read it because you're absolutely right.

Yeah, I've decided to boycott that. I'll take your cone.

I just listened to the song "I Would Die for That." Wow! I loved it and will probably post it on my site too. Thank you for your post today and the song- both are great, and I am thankful for them. If you haven't read Mel's blog today, you should! She really gave us all something to think about!

Couldn't have come on a better day. I could really use a cone of my favorite flavor. Thanks!

You know, I don't think your feelings about weight gain are inappropriate. Especially after you talked about your eating habits, serioulsy you sound like you're doing a great job. And then to see the spike in one month, and not to have a discernable reason in your mind for it. It's got to be frustrating! Besides, this is your space and you can vent about what you are feeling bad about. I know it feels like those who've been through IF and losses should just be glad we're pregnant, but that's not life - we ARE glad but that doesn't mean we won't have things that bother/worry/upset us.
*hugs* I think you LOOK amazing!!!!

Aside from thinking this promotion was dumb because pregnant women shouldn't eat soft serve, I felt the same way as you...it just seemed insensitive to me. All a matter of perspective, right? They surely didn't ask any pregnant women or infertiles before they had this brainchild.

Thanks for the Caring IF Cone! I was completely shocked with that too!! :(

Here! Here!

Now does that cone also cure persistant nausea? ;-)

Yeah, I can't say that their promotion really does much for me.

I will take your cone anyday!

Love that idea! It's so great and thoughtful (as always)! I also think it is funny they are promoting soft serve when it is a listeria risk to pregnant women.

I couldn't agree more! I am a big believer in the healing powers of ice cream.

BTW, I wanted to tell you how honored I am to be listed under you're "We're Celebrating!" column on your blog. That means so very much to me -- I can't put into words just how touched I was to see news of our L.O.A. there!

If nothing else, I hope it helps other couples to realize that there are multiple paths to parenthood. This just happened to be the right one for us, and we couldn't be happier!
