Party At Our Crib

We finally did it! Not, not it - We are back on pelvic rest following the bleeding scare, although you can see where my mind is.

Seriously, though, after months of searching, we finally found our crib and dresser/changing table! They are being delivered on Sunday evening, which means that it's time to stop fluffing around. We have to empty out the office this weekend. We figured this would be just the kick in the arse that we need to finally get things moving.

Here is the crib:

Here is the dresser:

But actually, it's in this slightly ligher color called caramel, because the nursery is a fairly small room.

And I have narrowed down my choices for nursery themes to two. I am actually going to set up a poll, so please vote on the following:

1) Clas.sic Po.oh.

I have long been into Clas.sic Pooh and always thought that this would be the nursery theme. In fact, when I was first pregnant two years ago, I fell in love with the set that Tar.get has since discontinued. This set is also from Tar.get, it's cute looking, but honestly feels a bit "cheap" as far as the fabric quality goes. But it's still adorable and I have some great ideas on how to accentuate it. It's also half the price as the other set that I like.

2) Moons and Stars
My all-time favorite children's book is "I Love You This Much," which has a scene in which the baby rabbit says to the big rabbit, "I love you all the way to the moon." The big rabbit says back, "I love you all the way to the moon and back." I have always loved this book and the loving sentiment that it has. So, I thought what could be greater than to recreate that feeling in a nursery. This set feels a bit nicer and I also have some really fun ideas for this one, including some moon and stars artwork and stenciling.

I am really torn and can't decide. Please help by voting! Either way, I think we are going with a nice yellow color for the walls, once again, to keep the nursery feeling a bit brighter and more open to compensate for the small size of the room.

And for those of you picking that they are both ugly, please leave some suggestions in the comments. That way, I can get some other ideas.

Thank you for the mouth ulcer rinse tip. I'll ask about the peroxide tomorrow!

I love your crib!!!!! Just adorable! As far as a theme? I have to vote for Classic Pooh.... Something about it just pronounces "adorable baby room". The only thing I like better is Beatrix Potter (we visited her museum/hometown in Scotland on our honeymoon & bought pictures for a future nersery, so there's sentiment there too). Even though I've found prettier nursery themes, the sentiment is strong... Which makes me like your Moon & Stars one too. Does your husband have any sentiment toward one or another?

Good luck emptying out the office. I hope I don't have to say this, but TAKE IT EASY. You can direct things while hubby does the actual moving.

Boy...I am torn. That is my favorite children's book, too. In fact, Scott and I always tell each other, "I love you this much..." Anyway, I have to say that I think I prefer the Pooh. I think all the white will look good with the wood color you've picked out. And while I love Pooh, I am not normally a huge Pooh nursery fan, so for me to say that I prefer that one was not a light decision. :)

I have to say I think I like the moon and stars. I think it is cute. Home.Depot has a ceiling fan blade that is light blue with dark blue moons and yellow stars. (It is reversible and the back side is safari.) That might help you for the ceiling art and it isn't permanent so it could be changed when the little guy gets older.

Love the furniture - very, very cute!! I voted for Moons and Stars - it just seemed like you had a lot of sentimental attachment to it. :-)

Both of your themes are adorable! I've thought of Classic Pooh myself.

Can I ask where the crib is from? We just started looking and I'm still looking for inspiration!

Katie,
I voted and said to keep looking (although I do NOT think they are both ugly). I only said keep looking because if you pick one of these themes you will have to re-do the room in a few years as your son gets older. If you pick a theme with more primary colors and maybe animals or something it could last him through elementary school. Just my humble opinion. If you decide to go with one of these, the I would pick the higher quality stuff. I like the moon/stars theme.

My vote was for moon and stars b.c that was the one I was going to use for the twins! LOL! Pooh just dosen't do it for me, just being honest! But I will love whatever you choose of course ;) Love ya lady!

I pick moon & starts. My totally preachy reason: I don't like using named characters. Seems too mass-market to me, and takes some of the imagination possibilities away from the crib. A more generic theme lets the child invent their own stories more easily. The fact that it's higher quality stuff is icing on the cake.

Having said that... my sister-in-law did her most recent nursery in classic pooh, and it is very very cute!

both are too darn cute to pick just one!!
i guess if i HAD to, i'd have to go with classic pooh because i am probably the biggest tigger fan on the planet... T, I, double Guherrrrrrrrrrrr!
Good luck deciding, doll!
*hugs*

I too love Pooh, but like you I'm not so keen on the set Target currently has. I do love that Moon and Stars set though. Adorable! So I'm voting for it, but really you won't go wrong either way.

Though I think both are very sweet, I am not a big fan of themes in general. I'm more into choosing a color scheme and going that route. I did vote though...b/c I don't think either is "ugly". I voted for moon and stars, mainly b/c it seems like less of a theme.

I have a husband who loves Pooh. He even has his own Pooh bear. I voted for the moon and stars because I know how much Pooh stuff we get because my husband likes it!

I did animals. I believe the print was from the J.ohn Lennon collection. It's since been discontinued. But I vote for something with animals because I love animals.

Ok so I was the lone negative on them both voter : ( Please don't flog me.

I have a thing about pastels for babies. I'm much more into vibrant colors - bright reds and blues, etc ... It's a personal preference, so please don't be offended. I just love nurseries that are done up in the major colors as opposed to the softer hues.

Sorry!!!

I did moons-and-stars and it's so much more unique and creative than Pooh! Sorry, not a Pooh fan over here (oops, did I just give away how I voted? LOL)!

Anyway, LOVE the dresser/changing table and crib!!! It's SO CUTE!!! I never could afford one of those, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!

I wish I was around you. I'd come help you clean and paint (excellent at painting, especially the trim)!

I didn't vote, but I don't think any of them are ugly, but I do think that you might want to go with less of a "theme" and more of a color scheme. Originally, I was deadset on doing an aquarium theme for my twins' nursery and was all set to spend tons of money on matching fish sheets, beddings, lamps, borders, ets. It was crazy how much money the whole things would end up costing. Instead....I bought lots of sheets and bedding in "watery" aqua's, green's, blue', etc., added really fun fish decorations, and made it my own. Keep in mind that as soon as one of the kiddos pees, poops, or pukes all over the bedding you are going to have to change the sheets and then nothing will match until you do laundry and remake it all! It's all cute until the bodily fluids take over!

That being said....the furniture you chose is GORGEOUS!!

Even though I put keep looking, I don't think either is ugly. I think it is all a personal preference..I tend to like things very simple. I love your reasons for picking both, I too love Pooh, but have been disappointed by the choices in that theme. I am sure that your little one will be happy with whatever you pick

I love the furniture! I also like the flower picture in your profile. I have one just like it in my post from yesterday.

Love the furniture! We have the same crib (or so it looks?) for our 5 month old son. We are still looking for a dresser. Where did you find your son's? If you don't mind, would you email me at bethajoy@hotmail.com - it would be so helpful!

Mmmm.....I vote for Moons 'n Stars themed nursery, but either one would really be lovely.

I've enjoyed reading your blog. You are a gifted writer. You're already an amazing mother.

Your crib and dresser look great! I'm a big pooh fan, but the star theme is darling also. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I had to laugh about the pelvic rest. Yes, my husband and I understand. I wish we didn't, it's going to be a long next 5 months for us. But we'll have to get by!

Many years ago, back when I was still in high school and not even sure I would live, let alone live, get married, and have serious dreams of a baby, I decided stars and moons it would be. With yellow walls to fit a girl or a boy. Pottery Barn Kids had the set I wanted eons ago but I am sure there are many pretty sets out there. I think it can "grow" with the baby more and last longer than a more babyish theme. (My laziness and observations of how much work a baby takes have been taken into account- no repainting rooms every 1-2 years for me!). I love the story too. :)
