Yep. The lab tech was wrong.
I failed the 1-hour glucose tolerance test. The top acceptable number is 140 and I came in at 152.
Crap.
I also have low iron levels, apparently extremely low iron levels. 35 is the cut off for normal, 33 - 35 is borderline, 30 - 33 is iron supplements, and anything below 30 needs iron infusions. I am at 27.5. So, I had to start iron supplements immediately and they will retest on Friday when I do the 3-hour GTT. If my numbers haven't responded by then, I will get an iron infusion.
Because I am leaving for a work trip next Tuesday, my doctor really wants to get the ball rolling on the GTT. So, Friday it is.
I am trying not to get too freaked out, as I know many ladies that have failed the 1-hour and then passed the 3-hour. I'll be honest, though, I am a little overwhelmed thinking about it. So, fingers crossed for good results on Friday.

Good luck with the 3h GTT- I'm glad I went straight to it in retrospect, but bring a good book!
J
I'm sorry you failed the GTT, it sounds icky. But fingers crossed that the 3 hour one will go better. And hey, worst case scenario and you fail, you're in good company - lots of these gals that had GD can give you loads of free advice. *hugs*
Katie,
Bummer about the glucose test! I'll be sending lots of positive thoughts your way for your 3hr Gtt!
Glad baby boy is doing so well!
I hope the 3 hour test goes well. And maybe the iron will be just what you need.
Failed the 1 hour although it was 142 and passed the 3 hour. I hear a lot of people fail the 1 hour.
Sorry you failed the one hour :( Good luck Friday! As for the iron, I hope the supplements do the trick!
During my first pregnancy I did fail my 1 hr. test...failed it miserably. I squeaked through the 3 hr. test, but they still made me go on the diet...which wasn't that bad. So, either way, don't be too freaked out.
I'm sorry about the GTT, but hopefully the 3hr will go better. Congrats on making it to the 3rd trimester! You really are doing really well with this pg! Glad you had a good time with your hubby. =)
Ugh, fingers are crosssed. But you are right, I know of TONS of people that fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hour. No worries - we'll be thinking of you!!
(((HUGS))) Katie!!! I am sorry you failed the 1hr. GTT. :( I failed it w/ Sean and then passed the three hour so hopefully you will pass the 3 hr. too! As you might recall I failed both w/ Molly, but it wasn't the end of the world and you will get through it if it happens.
One note, in case you were considering doing something silly before the 3hr. (like I did w/ Molly)... In the day or two leading up to it I tried to watch what I was eating in terms sugars and stuff, hoping that I could "fix" the outcome. When I shared that w/ a nurse or doctor later they told me that my body may have even gotten messed up from trying to adjust and that I should have probably just kept eating as I had been. So for what that's worth.
GOOD LUCK!!! I am sending lots of negative GTT thoughts and prayers your way.
Also, your shower pictures are beautiful!!! It looks like it was a wonderful day! You so deserve it!
It sucks you have to take the three hour, but I bet you pass it...you were pretty close on the one hour, really. And the iron supplements are pretty standard from what I hear.
Oh well, you're in the home stretch, girlie!
Oh man. I'm sorry the 1 hr GTT didn't go well. I know lots of women fail the 1 hour but pass the 3 hour, so let's hope you're one of them. And I hope your iron levels go up, because iron infusion does not sound like a lot of fun.
That sucks! Those tests sound so grody... almost everyone I have known has failed that 1 hour test, though, so take heart that you are in good company. ;)
I am sure all we be fine, but I will pray about it!
*hugs*
I failed the 1 hr. test...155! And passed the 3 hr. test...but I did have a 10 lb. 8 oz. baby!
My fingers are crossed! Too bad it isn't the type of test you can study for!
Katie- crossing my fingers for you - I also had low iron. I read somewhere that most pregnant woman have low iron coming out of the 2nd trimester going into hte 3rd but after some supplements and time it re-adjusts itself.
Crossing fingers for a great 3 hour test results for you.
I just wanted to chime in with several of the others. I failed the 1 hour GTT with both my pregnancies, but I passed the 3-hour both times, so don't be discouraged yet! Hang in there. Be sure and have a plan for getting something to eat as soon as that test is done. Eat and lie down. I was very shaky and dizzy after the 3-hour test both times. I recommend eating something with lots of protein after the test. Take a nap after you eat and you should be good to go! Just don't go back to work afterwards. Best wishes!
