Public Service Announcements

Before I get on to the Baby Stuff, I do have an important factoid for you this morning. Yesterday, when I got home from work, our neighbor came running up to me to tell me what started the fire. Apparently, the barkdust in their front yard had spontaneously combusted. Once that happened, the pillar caught on fire, then it traveled up to the roof. My first thought was "yeah, right," but she then handed me a flier that the fire marshall had given her. Apparently, this is not some urban legend and can actually happen. The recommendation in extremely hot and dry weather is to hose your dust down weekly. Huh, who knew?

Second PSA:

If you have read my blog for any amount of time, you know that I love a great deal. I thrive on getting a discount. The bigger the percent off, the happier I am.

When I started looking for nurseryy bedding, I found a place that has pretty good prices on bedding and such. I had been there only about a dozen times in the past few months, looking at different bedding options and then "visiting" my choice until it was time to buy it. Every. single. time. they had the bedding there.

Until this last Sunday, when my husband and I finally went to actually purchase the 6-piece bedding set. It was out of stock. Much to my dismay, since this is a discount store, they have no ordering cycles. Things just come in as they have them, which means it can never come again, it could come on a truck this week, or anything in between. They can special order it for us, but it still takes 8 - 12 weeks and they tack a special order charge on.

I realized that I was going to have to buy it online, but I wasn't happy about paying at least $50 more for the set, plus shipping. Also, most on-line orders would take a month or more. Then I found this place. Cheapest prices that I have found on-line, plus free shipping on orders over $100, plus we'll have the bedding by Saturday. Sigh of relief.

So, if you are looking for bedding and nursery accessories, definitely check it out.

Not to sound like a dolt but ... what is bark dust? Really. Is that mulch or ... ? Should I be hosing my trees down?

Mulch, I think. Just the pretty wood chips that you spread on your flower beds. Isn't it funny how different regions call things by different names?

Thanks for the clarification. I wouldn't want to start a national hosing down of all trees! :)

Good suggestions on bedding shopping!

We had a playground at one of the elementary schools here spontaneously catch on fire from the mulch they had used! Scary!

I will remember that! We've got mulch in our yard. Florida is pretty damp though.

I love discounts too! I will look at that site.

well whew! We don't have mulch or wood chips or anything. Shoot ... our plants live and die by the weather. They get no help from us lol

Yikes-thank you for the PSA on the mulch. I had no idea?!?!? That sounds so crazy!

As for the bedding: yay! Congratulations on finding exactly what you wanted for a good price. Few things in life can compare to finding a fabulous bargain!

That is where I purchased my bedding online too! I even later saw my bedding set at Burlington/Baby Depot but for a higher cost. So I was very proud of my purchase.

That fire situation is very scary. I can't believe it was barkdust. WOW.

Thanks for the tip on that website. I had not heard of it and will be browsing this weekend!
